Aims and Objectives

The aims and objects of the Chandigarh Judicial Academy, for which it is formed and registered, are:

  • To organise and impart induction training to the newly recruited Judicial Officers and to provide continuing judicial education and training to the in-service Judicial Officers of the States of Punjab and Haryana;
  • To devise and organise refresher courses, training programs, advanced courses, work shops, conferences, and seminars for in-service Judicial Officers of the States of Punjab and Haryana so as to keep them abreast with the latest developments in the field of law and Judicial Administration;
  • To organise and impart training to the officers and officials working in the Registry of the High Court and offices of the District and Subordinate Courts;
  • To study the court management and administration of justice in the states of Punjab and Haryana and to suggest improvements in the said system;
  • To undertake, organize, and facilitate study courses, conferences, seminars, lectures, and research in matters relating to court management and administration of justice;
  • To establish the Academy as a centre of excellence in Judicial education, training, and court management;
  • To establish liaison with research institutions, universities, and other bodies within or outside India for the purpose of advancing the administration of justice;
  • To assist and co-ordinate the other training institutions established for imparting Judicial education and training;
  • To assist, co-ordinate, and train in-service Judicial Officers’ members of the bar, and others eligible for that purpose, in the mechanisms of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation training programmes for mediators;
  • To assist, interact with, and collaborate in promoting the study of court management with other institutions and bodies both within the country and abroad;
  • To undertake the publication of papers, books, monographs, journal articles, etc. on legal aspects and allied subjects, with special reference to court management and the administration of justice;
  • To co-ordinate with other High Courts and/or Judicial Academies functioning in the country for mutual benefit by organising workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.;
  • To publish handbooks, pamphlets, and other such handy material for general awareness among the common man about his legal rights and the availability of legal remedies;
  • To offer training or refresher courses to newly recruited and/or in-service Judicial Officers of other states;
  • To offer training or refresher courses to the members of the All India and State Civil Services belonging to the States of Punjab, Haryana, and U.T. Chandigarh;
  • To serve as a North Zone Training Center for the in-service Judicial/Quasi-Judicial Administrative and Revenue Officers from the States in Northern India;
  • To prescribe rules and regulations for the management and administration of the Academy; 
  • To perform all other lawful acts and things that are conducive or incidental to the achievement of the Academy's objectives.
