A Judge is considered to be a key factor in the administration of justice. It has been opined by the eminent jurist that the quality of the justice is determined by the quality of a judge who administers the same. Chandigarh Judicial Academy is tasked with providing training to Judicial Officers at three different levels in order to prepare them for administering the justice effectively.
- Induction Course: As new entrant to the services – 1 year
- Foundation Course: As an entrant from the Bar with an experience as an Advocate – 4 months
- Orientation Course: As an In-service officer on Promotion – 1 month
The entire training is designed after conducting a detailed analysis of the job which a Judicial Officer is required to perform as a Judge. The course is scientifically deduced after deliberations and taking into consideration three important components as envisaged in Banglore Principles of Judicial Conduct.
Induction Course
The Trainee Judicial Officer is required to undergo induction training for one year training, which is divided into the following parts:
- Institutional training at the Academy – 26 weeks
- Court Placement – 10 weeks
- Field visits – 8 weeks
- Village Immersion Program – 1 week
- Summer Vacations – 2 weeks
- Winter Vacations – 1 week
- Education and Excursion Program – 1 week
Foundation Course
An Advocate selected by direct recruitment is required to undergo Foundation Course to undertake four months of training, which is divided into the following parts:
- Institutional training at the Academy – 6 weeks
- Court Placement – 6 weeks
- Reflective training at the Academy – 2 weeks
- Education and Excursion Program – 2 weeks
Orientation Course
A Judicial Officer on promotion to Superior Judicial Services is required to undergo one month of training, which is divided into the following parts:
- Institutional training – 3 weeks
- Practical training – 1 week
